Knightmare Chat has been taking a brief respite over the holidays, because it was the holidays, and since f0rester rebooted Ezri services went down. But now he's kindly restored services and so #Knightmare is fully functional. Let's get chat started in 2010 with a swing!

Just to reiterate, it's on Sunday nights at 8:00pm (well, it's open all the time but you probably won't find anyone else in there at any other time) and you can access it through CGI by clicking here or via an IRC client:

server: irc.knightmare.org.uk
port: 6667
channel: #knightmare

Hope to see more people there on Sunday evening!

A quest is already in progress, so here's a progress report...

Wow, been a few months since I talked about Knightmare. So let's talk about Knightmare. You know you love it.

You all remember me making a big song and dance about Yes Dungeon Master, the delicious amalgamation of Knightmare and Yes Minister where you got to listen to yours truly pretend to be a deranged civil servant. Well, there's a new comedy play online, penned by and starring Eyeshield fanzine editor Jake Collins and his sister Rosey. Called Sidriss the Confused and the Chamber of Secrets, this is a tongue in cheek little vignette with a certain boy-wizard flavour to it, though not in the way you might expect. Have a listen, Fun Times will ensue.

Also, there's been a new type of audio released, namely tv commentaries. Intended to be played alongside the episodes in a Rifftrax type way, these are recorded by members of the KM community and offer insights, general trivia, stuff you may not know, and generally Quite Interesting stuff into the episodes and seasons. Or, if you're me and Alastair 'Mr Flibble' Payne, an excuse to have a brandy and make gratuitous MST3K/Darkplace references throughout. Download a few and listen to them with the corresponding episodes, I guarentee there will be something about the show you will learn.

Next, production has commenced on a new audio play, a drama in the style of Famous for Retreating. Going by the working title of When Five Tribes Go To War, it's set during the timeframe of the show's fourth season and reveals exactly what was going on in the background that was always hinted at but never stated, along with the rise of a certain Evil Lord we all know and love. In the coming days I'm going to attempt an impersonation of David Learner. Wish me luck.

Finally, there are a number of upcoming projects in the works. Work's almost finished on the retweaked Colour of Amber, with a number of other writers from the Surrounds community signed on to do additional prose stories set in the F&I series. Ricky and myself are gearing up to start work on a new prose story, and quite a key one at that - the story that acts as a coda to the final series whilst laying the groundwork for the new prose/audio productions we've been working on. It's time you all found out just why people from our time can no longer reach the Dungeon realm...

If you want more regular updates than these rare summaries of mine, then follow the newly created twitter. It goes ding when there's stuff. It's egg boiling capabilities are untested, but it scares my cat, so it's doing something right.

Interesting times are on the horizon. Oh very yes indeed.

Knightmare - Yes Dungeon Master AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

The audio play Yes Dungeon Master is finished and is ready to download. As ever, it is entirely free of charge and can be found at this link here.

There's a number of new projects in the pipeline and we're moving forward to commence production on them - provided there's an audience out there who will dig 'em. If you like what you hear and want us to do more audio plays in this vein - albiet with more serious dramatic stories and higher production values - then leave a comment or two about YDM at its subforum on the KM Audio Drama site. It won't take a second and it will make us very happy bunnies.

New audio play - Yes Dungeon Master

Crossposted from the official Knightmare forums:

The KM-Radio team are back in action, and on September 7th - the twenty-second anniversary of Knightmare's first ever broadcast - our latest production will be available from http://www.kmramdram.co.uk/.

It's another comedy, and therefore not set in any continuity, and like its most recent predecessors, it fuses Knightmare to a comedy act of yesteryear, in this case the classic Governmental parody series, Yes, Minister. But in contrast to KM-Today and Bolt To The Head, this is an actual play rather than just a sketch; it's our first full play since Famous For Retreating.

This play is again recorded in the same manner as BTTH was, in that, instead of gathering in a recording studio, the cast has recorded their roles from home on their own computers, frequently using cheap microphones. Therefore, as before, the sound quality is variable, but it is generally tidier and more consistent this time around thanks to improved filtering techniques.

The cast on Yes, Dungeon Master is as follows;-

Russell 'Ruzl' Odoni as Treguard Myatt
Jake Collins as Sir Hordriss T. Appleby
Andy Marshall as Bernard Folly
Rosey Collins as The Descender
Matt Richings as Merlin and Supporter 1
Helen Becconsall as Majida, The Commentator and Supporter 2
Martin Odoni as The Returning Officer and The Throne

Check back here on September 7th for the links!

Knightmare: Fire and Ice

Those who know me well enough will know that Knightmare is never far from my thoughts. It is a permanent feature, for better or worse, of my being. Knightmare elegantly punctuated my primary years. It introduced me to fantasy, encouraged me towards intellectual pursuit, and proved to be a strong enough source of a fair majority of my strongest friends. I appreciate criticism against this kind of thing, but I am neither a fanatic gamer, a regular role-player, nor a writer of fan-fiction; first and foremost, I just engage in nostalgic appreciation of revolutionary television, for a show which has transcended its particular era, demonstrated the exponential nature of technological change, and has provided millions with entertainment, discussion, and memorabilia; far more than ever will be said for the majority of today’s mediocrity.
